Mads Tolling Quartet : "Celebrating Svend Asmussen"

The legendary master of the jazzviolin : Svend Asmussen, my bandleader for more than 15 years, celebrates his 100 !! Birthday on February 28. 2016.
One of his many admirers is 35 year old San Francisco resident Mads Tolling. Known for his work in the US with Stanley Clarke and grammy award winning crossover ensemble "Turtle Island String Quartet".
We'll be playing 37 concerts in Denmark ,Sweden, Norway and Germany, during February and March.

Just back from a wonderful 2 weeks in the US
first week in sunny Phoenix Arizona with a great lineup Nicki Parrott, Rossano Sportiello, John Cocuzzi, Randy Reinhart, Russ Phillips and Tom Fischer.
then a week in Washington DC with Scott Hamilton sax, Chuck Redd vibes and drums and Tommy Cecil on bass. Truly enjoyable.

Fall tour 2015 with Mads Tolling Quartet - highly succesful jazz violinist making a rare visit to Denmark from his present home in San Francisco where he plays with a.o. Stanley Clarke and the Turtle Island String Quartet.

Min gamle ven, en mesterlig kontrabassist og kollega på et par tusinde koncerter Hugo Rasmussen er død. Mærkelig tomhed at én man har spillet med flere gange om ugen i over 25 år ikke findes mere.

(...) Så er der langt mere stil og konsekvens i udgivelsen fra guitaristen Jacob Fischer. Her er nuancer og raffinement i såvel arrangementer som fortolkning. De muntre numre bliver skælmske, ligesom musikken generelt swinger med en lystighed, som harmonerer fint med den klassiske opfattelse af begrebet jul.
Generelt lykkes det at fastholde en anslået stemning, og Jacob Fischer, som har valgt at fravælge salmer, spiller bare elegant, smidigt og aldeles overrumplende. Han bliver liftligt ledsaget af bassisten Anders Christensen og af trommeslageren Janus Templeton, der i et par sambanumre overlader stikkerne til brasilianeren Rafael Barata. Og så er det ikke mindst fascinerende at opleve altsaxofonisten Christina von Bülow, der spiller så begavet, så personligt og så medrivende, at højtid og tidløshed bare går op i en højere enhed.

Men framför allt låter hon som Christina von Bülow. Hennes samspel med Jacob Fischer, som uppenbarligen inte kan spela en enda ton utan att det svänger, är i det närmaste telepatiskt.(...)
